他点了一杯咖啡,然后对服务员说:“I’d like a coffee, please.”
Here you go.”
That’s not coffee. That’s just water with a cup.”
But sir, that’s what I was told to bring you.”
“Ah,” 老先生笑着说,“I think you misunderstood. I said ‘I’d like a coffee’ — not ‘I’d like a cup of water.’”
Well, maybe next time you should say ‘I’d like a cup of coffee’ instead of just ‘a coffee.’”
You know, in England, we don’t usually say ‘a coffee’ unless it’s already made. We say ‘a cup of coffee’ or just ‘coffee’ when we’re in a hurry.”
Well, I guess that’s why they call it ‘American English’ — it’s a bit different from the real thing.”
